The gear ratios are close enough to allow constant acceleration when shifting gears. The overall range of these gears covers the speeds available using the original 1st to 4th 4-speed transmission, nearly identical to the engine gears of the DL / GP models. This allows you to quickly get away from traffic lights without incinerating the clutch, while allowing for an acceptable highway cruising speed at a modest number of revolutions. The CASA PERFORMANCE team was not only concerned with providing useful gear ratios, but also with the most basic challenge of fitting a 5-speed transmission within the confines of a standard Lambretta gearbox. Usually this problem is solved by making the toothed teeth much thinner, to squeeze five gears into the space normally occupied by only four. The ‘Cyclone 5’ transmission however is made up of gears that are almost as thick as the originals. This was made possible by making the most of the space available in the existing gearbox. To ensure long-lasting use within the most tuned engines, CASA PERFORMANCE has achieved a significant improvement in the quality and manufacturing standards of these conversion kits. This involves electro-polishing the flanks of the gear teeth, an advanced process that makes their surface particularly resistant. We recommend a primary gear ratio of 18/47 or 19/46. The individual gears are: 9/45, 12/41, 14/38, 16/36, 18/35. The kit includes both a reinforced selector spring and a selector spider.
