Stefano BENELLI has been passionate about all petrol vehicles, two or four stroke, since the 1980s. His love for two-stroke is strong and especially for the Vespa. This is where he was able to gather his first experience in engine tuning and many of his developments saw successful use in sprint scooter racing. He discovered that the original Vespa gearbox was unable to handle the extra power. Back in the days when the only aftermarket gearbox component available here in Germany was a shorter 4th gear for the smallframe engine, the BENELLI range of gearbox components was already included in scooters racing in the Italian national racing series. More recently, spare parts from various manufacturers have become available. Outside of its home country, parts produced by BENELLI were very difficult to obtain and only a small, exclusive circle of racers and tuners were even aware of their excellent reputation and existence. During product comparisons conducted in Germany, its gear gears were rated better than those of other component manufacturers. Nowadays the BENELLI company has become a small-scale manufacturer of high-end gearbox components using the best materials suitable for a wide spectrum of potential uses. They have proven effective in use on off-road vehicles, circuits and sprint racing cars. The original input shaft for Vespa PX Lusso is equipped with sprockets with 12-13-17-21 teeth respectively. The input shaft manufactured by BENELLI for the Vespa largeframe engine is available with a variety of gear gear sets of different sizes. Their 12-13-17-20 toothed version has a shorter 4th gear and the 12-13-16-19 toothed version has a shorter 3rd gear and an extremely short 4th. The version with 12-13-17-17 teeth has a toothed gear for the 4th gear with 34 teeth. These input shafts make gearbox setups with closer gear ratios than standard ones, for both racing projects and high-speed machines. The availability of single sprockets, such as the BENELLI 1st gear with 55 serrated teeth, allows individual customization of the gearbox according to the needs of the cyclist and the needs of the scooter’s field of use.
